Wasser für die Dekapolis

When Gadara, a city in present-day Jordan that was originally one of the main cities in the Decapolis, became an important center of trade, the water supply for the city became a vital question. The solution was a branched aquaduct system that was also connected to the Decapolis cities Raphana, Adra'a, and Abila. The system included wells, aboveground canals, tunnels, viaducts, a dam, and pipelines, and had an estimated inflow of more than 1000 cubic meters per hour. This study presents the results of the first systematic investigation of the Decapolis aquaduct.
