Soft cover. The author discusses the the causes, conduct and consequences of the 1868 attack on a Southern Cheyenne village along the Washita River by General Custer's Seventh Cavalry. Not only did it bring about the death of Black Kettle, the most prominent chief of peace, but also ended the Cheyenne way of life. In 1996 the site beccame a unit of the National Park system. 292 pages.
