Author Matt Love once heard a rumor that, during the filming of Sometimes a Great Notion in 1971, actor and director Paul Newman walked into a Toledo, Oregon bar and sawed the legs off a pool table with a chainsaw. That story was the genesis of this book, an exploration of Newman, Ken Kesey, and the filming of Sometimes a Great Notion.
