Mapping Urban Biodiversity on the Web

How do we make sense of urban biodiversity in the digital age? Drawing on data from a wide range of digital sources, including YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, and generative AI tools, this book explores how online platforms shape debates on urban environmental policy, influence public perceptions of biodiversity, and foster new forms of engagement between humans and nonhuman species. The findings reveal the fragmented and often contradictory ways in which urban biodiversity is portrayed and discussed online, offering insights into how cities can more effectively communicate and implement biodiversity policies.
