Governance in the Pacific
de Tauaasa Taafaki · Publicada por primera vez en 1995
This book is about a government which manipulated the appointment of the Governor-General for political advantage. The Constitution requires the appointment to be made only after consultation with members of Parliament. When consulted, Opposition members submitted that since the elections were about to be undertaken, that the appointment be delayed until a new government is formed. Who ever forms the new government will then commence the appointment of the new Governor-General. But oblivious to the political climate at the time, the government arrogantly proceeded to make an appointment. The elections were held and a new government was formed. The new government then removed the appointee made by the previous government arguing that it was made contrary to the consent of the majority of the MPs and without cognizance of the prevailing political climate at the time.
