In 2006, a polar schooner called Tara began is 508-day drift across the arctic pack ice. The Tara was the first ship built for this purpose since Nansen's Fram in 1893. Ellie Ga was invited as the ship's artist for what would be the last five months of the expedition ; this experience serves as the basis for North Was Here.
