On the fifth day of the fifth month on lunar calendar, traditionally in China, people observe the dragon-boat-race festival in memory of an ancient patriotic poet named Qu Yuan who was exiled by the king who no longer trusted him. In his exile, he became so depressed that he jumped in a river and drowned himself. The villagers raced in boats to try to rescue him, but too late. Then they made rice dumplings wrapped in broad leaves to feed the fish in the river hoping they would not bite the poet. This festival is called in Chinese "Duan wu," "Duan yang," "Chong wu," or "Shi ren jie (Poets Day)." Legends, folklore, customs and poems are introduced in this book, too.
