Well, as the title says, it is a grammar of the English language. Published in 1653, it is regarded by some as a "fundamental text in the development of a 'universal grammar'", but has not been held in favor due to its adoption of linguistic iconism, or sound symbolism. This view conflicted with the more prominent linguistic conventionalism of the 19th century.
