This volume presents large scale aerial and land photographs of Israel's significant archeological and historical sites, showing buildings, ancient artifacts and other works of art. In addition to their aesthetic value, the pictures and editor's comments provide background information about the archaeological compounds and the environment in which they are located. Next to each site mentioned in the book is a map with a dot that denotes its location and provides the reader with a point of reference relative to the site. The photographs are arranged chronologically, depicting prehistoric times, the emergence of the Israelites, the impact of the Greek and Roman worlds, Judaism and Christianity, Islam and the Crusaders, and Ottoman Palestine.
