Poet Wah loves wordplay and puns, making his book a delight to read. Since it is also about Wah trying to understand his own mixed ancestry and trying to come to terms with the shameful treatment of Chinese in early Canadian history, it also contains evident anger. But it is love that ultimately shines through.
