The population of the Deathworld is now at loose ends and moribund, since the pacification of their deadly home world. The plot is based on the historical tale, (updated and fictionalized of course,) of the downfall of the Mongols and the Balkanization of their enormous empire after Temuchin's death, as (re-)told by the incomparable, inestimable Harry Harrison.
