John Cassell (1817-1865) founded the publishing house Cassell & Co. which became famous for its educational books and periodicals. In 1852 he expanded his weekly "Popular Educator" with the "Popular Bible Educator" which featured articles but such well-known writers as Sir George Birdwood who wrote an encyclopedic treatise on frankincense found in volume 1 of this series. In 1859 Cassells became a partner in the printing firm Cassells, Petter & Galpin in London, publishers of "The Bible Educator."
