Roy entered the U.S. Army during WWII and served 22 years until he retired in 1966. Prior to entering active military service, Roy was employed as Chief Inspector for the Signal Corp Inspection Office at the Paranite Wire and Cable Co. in Marion, IN. Roy served with the U.S. Army in China and the Korean Occupation then transferred his career to the U.S. Air Force in April 1948. At this time Roy re-enlisted to enter Radar Training at Keesler AFB, Mississippi. Roy met Berniece Maloy in Forrest Co., Mississippi and they were married in 1949. Roy served in China and the Korean Occupation. Also from 1952 to 1955 with the 3381st Air Force Depot at Chaterioux, France where he supervised four radar maintenance shops, a precision measuring equipment laboratory and three field teams. His last three years of active duty was served as Chief of the Instructions Systems Development Team, detached from Air Training Command HQs at Randolph AFB, San Antonio, TX and attached to the Electronic Technical Training Center at Keesler AFB, Mississippi. Roy retired June 30, 1966 as a MSgt with 22 years of active duty. After retiring from the military, Roy spent two years at the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce in Gulfport and then went back to Keesler AFB as an Electronic Training Instructor for another 15 years. Roy fully retired in December 1983 with 38 years of Federal Service. Although Roy and Berniece do not have ancestral roots in Harrison County, they have been residents of the Lyman since July 1958. Roy has been a family historian for over 50 years and compiled and published seven Family History books confirming the Eastes/Estes paternal line back 16 generations to 1495 in Kent County, England. Roy is a Life Member of Polar Star Masonic Lodge in Handsboro, a 32 Degree Member of the Scottish Rite of Gulfport, a Charter Member of Joppa Shrine Temple of Gulfport, a Member of the Allen B. Carter American Legion Post 24 in Hattisburg, a Member of the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, the National Genealogical Society, a Member of the Kent County Historical Society and the Kent County Archeological Society in Kent County, England. Also, several Historical and Genealogical Societies across the USA.
